Last weekend the club took a side to the Andronicos Cup in Albury, made up of a mix of firsts, reserves and third grade players.
The idea was to have a hit out and just spend some time getting the rust out.
Leeton went down in each of their three matches, but assistant coach Joe Trifogli wasn’t too concerned.
He was hopeful those fortunes would change on Saturday when United takes on Sydney side North Ryde in the FFA Cup in Leeton.
“Hopefully we can get a win over them on Saturday and keep progressing in the competition,: Trifogli said.
“It should be a good hit out for us. Last weekend was our first time playing in the pre-season.
“I think we got rid of a few cobwebs, so it will be interesting to see where we sit on Saturday. We’ll be fielding a stronger team compared to last Sunday.”
United’s first grade side is again being coached by Mick Doolin, who led them to a top-four finish during Leeton’s return to the Football Wagga competition.
Frank Alampi will also be an assistant coach.
Pre-season kicked off for the club about a month ago and Trifogli was hopeful the work being done now would hold the teams in good stead come the season proper.

A draw is yet to be finalised for the competition.
“The nucleus of the first grade team will be made up of much the same players as last season,” Trifogli said.
“We’ve got a few backpackers that will be playing with us as well. They’ve just landed in town recently so we’re working out where they will fit in best.”
The FFA Cup match against North Ryde will be held at No. 2 Oval on Saturday evening from 5pm.
Spectators are welcome.
“Hopefully they can get us over the line,” Trifogli said.
