Leeton’s Anzac Day dawn service drew a large crowd on Wednesday morning as a small, but reverent commemoration was held at the town’s cenotaph.
A march up Pine Avenue started proceedings, with returned servicewomen leading the way as they are across the country this year.
The idea is to recognise the efforts women make in Australia’s armed forces as it’s not just men making sacrifices.
William Ingram gave a welcome to country, while Leeton RSL Sub-branch president John Power conducting the short service.
He implored residents to remember the lives lost so they could enjoy a time of peace, but also reminded the crowd of the work still being done each day by the current personnel involved in the country’s armed forces.
A breakfast at the Leeton Soldiers Club followed as the shire gears up for the main march starting later on Wednesday.
