Don’t worry, Leeton Shire Council’s new marketing and cultural services co-ordinator Suesann Vos isn’t about to rob a bank, she just has a talent for securing funding and making it stretch for the benefit of the community.
Mrs Vos is an MIA native having grown up in Griffith before moving away for numerous career and family opportunities.
Last year she moved to Narrandera with her family from Queensland and she believes her new role at council is already the job most suited to her many talents.
“Cultural tourism is my thing … I’m a museum geek, I’m a gallery geek, but I’m also an online marketing geek,” she said.
“This role allows me to tap into all of that for the benefit of the Leeton shire community.”
Part of her position will be to have a big focus on the Roxy Theatre in terms of building the team already in place there to do even more great work, securing funding for refurbishments and getting more numbers at the venue.
“The Roxy Theatre is beautiful,” Mrs Vos said.
“Once I go in there it’s very difficult to leave. The other thing with my role will be to plan, develop and implement the Art Deco Festival (in Leeton shire).
“This can be a really massive event for Leeton as a destination.”
Mrs Vos was responsible for developing the now famous Abbey Medieval Festival in Queensland, which started off with virtually no funding and 12,000 visitors to a full-time job for herself for 12 years and 40,000 people taking part.
She would like to achieve something similar with the Art Deco Festival, which is where she hopes her knack for securing grant funding will come into play.
Also in Mrs Vos’ sights is the Yanco Powerhouse Museum and Whitton Courthouse and Historical Museum.
One of her new goals is to breathe new life into those facilities, as well as working with their volunteers and committees to attract more people to see their wares and the towns of Yanco and Whitton.

While moving back to regional NSW was somewhat of a culture shock after many years away, Mrs Vos can’t wait to sink her teeth into the projects.
She would also like to help in upskilling the community when it comes to the online world and social media. “Social media is a great tool for everyone,” Mrs Vos said.
“We can all be using it to promote where we live.” A date for the revamped Art Deco Festival is yet to be set, but Mrs Vos assured residents there would be plenty more news to come.
