During the week off United took a fun approach to training in the hope it would lift the side in what has been a tough season so far according to assistant coach Joe Trifogli.

“The lack of consistency we have had in the opening half of the season has us a bit dumbfounded,” he said.

“For me, it just comes down to us not being able to finish our chances.

“We have been creating a lot, but we just have not been able to put those chances away.”

Their opposition this weekend in Tumut are in the same position as United and are only in front of the Leeton side because they have scored more goals in the eight games so far this season.

Trifogli acknowledges the tough task ahead of the United this weekend when they head to the foothills of the Snowy Mountains.

“It is going to be a cold match, and they will be well and truly up for it,” he said.

“It is a shootout for both of us. The important thing for us is to take advantage of the mistakes that they make because luck hasn’t fallen our way in that regard.

“We have to concentrate on taking our chances, and that will mean we will be less frustrated and make less mistakes because of it.”

Getting a result this weekend will be crucial for United as it is the first of three away games in a row and seven of their last 10 are on the road.

Looking at the table outside of the top two sides from third down to 10th, the teams are separated by 11 points, and that fact isn’t lost on Trifogli.

“It is a logjam after the top two,” he said.

“If you can pick up some games on the road which we are going to have to we should be in a good position.

“You just have to make the top six. If we can crack the top four then great but if not the top six is the goal.

“We will probably try a few things differently, but we just need to be composed in front of goal.”
