NSW RSL Women’s Auxiliary State Congress was recently held in Albury for the very first time. Our delegate, Carol Power, attended along with myself and Una Williams, representing the Leeton RSL Sub Branch Women’s Auxiliary. The first of a combined congress with RSL NSW, it proved to be highly successful, allowing the auxiliary members to be observers, giving us an insight into the concerning happenings of the NSW RSL over the past couple of years, and the developments that have now been achieved.

Expertly led by NSW President James Brown, his team of councillors, along with a number of exceptional, high calibre guest speakers, they provided an extensive, open and honest, very detailed congress over the three days. It has been hailed as an outstanding success, not only because of the information provided, but also because they showed members the extensive degree to which they have been working to bring NSW RSL back from the brink of what could have been destruction, to an updated constitution, meeting our charitable legal requirements and implementing changes necessary to modernise the RSL NSW, providing far more service to all veterans of all eras. Getting us back to our core values.
The auxiliary members met exclusively one afternoon to determine new direction requested by NSW RSL in changing our name to reflect modern times. This was agreed, and we will now be referred to as RSL auxiliaries, without the word “women”. As a consequence, all current members will also now also become Honorary Members of RSL.
