Their derby match up was played at No. 1 Oval on Sunday, with the Hawkettes taking out the stunning 16-12 victory.
Going into the game, it was one of the few times both teams were relatively evenly matched
For many years, the Hawks have struggled against their cross-shire rivals.
Leeton had always been regarded as the team to beat since the early days of the league tag competition and were the powerhouse for many years.
However, Yanco-Wamoon has spent the past two to three seasons really building on the players the have and their skills.
This season, the Greens have been going through their own rebuilding period after having been at the top for so long.
So, heading into Sunday’s match, it was always going to be a battle to the end for the two teams.
Hawks get the edge
Yanco-Wamoon coach Craig Higgins felt the difference on Sunday was the ability of the Hawkettes to capitalise on errors made by the Greens.
“They did make a couple of mistakes and we were able to make them pay for that,” he said.
“I wasn’t aware we had never beaten the Greens before, so it was an amazing feeling for the girls.
“They were all really excited, it was great to see.”

The match was fairly well even throughout and it was always going to be the team who pounced on opposition errors that would come away with the points.
“We’ve just been trying to do a lot of the simple things right and it’s working for us,” Higgins said.
“This year we’re probably also fitter than we have been.”
This weekend the Hawkettes return home to take on top-placed Black and Whites at Yanco Sportsground, while the Greens will take on the eighth-placed TLU Sharks at Lake Cargelligo.
