JONAH Allen recently traveled to Batemans Bay to represent Riverina in the AFL State Championships.
Riverina was off to a great start winning their first three games.
Their first game was against South Coast, which they won by a large margin.
Their second opponent against MacKilliop, which was played under lights and was also won by Riverina.
In their third match they played CIS, which they won to progress to the semi-finals against North Sydney.
RELATED
In this game they went down in extra time, meaning there were headed for another show down with South Coast.
“We were pretty tired by this game … we ended up losing, but I thought we still played pretty well,” Jonah said.
This mean Riverina finished fourth at the championships.
“That’s still a really good effort I reckon … it was fun playing against the other teams and making new friends,” Jonah said.
Rugby league
LATE last month, Leeton Public School participated in the Mortimer Shield at the High School Ovals.
Leeton Public had enormous interest to participate and, as a result, entered four teams to compete on the day.
The LPS boys rugby league team won all of their games against St Joseph’s Leeton, Small Schools and St Joseph’s Narrandera.
The girls LPS diamond team, who participated in the league tag component of the day, also won all their games against LPS Sapphires, St Joseph’s Leeton A and St Joseph’s Leeton B.
The school said it was great to see many children participating on the day with great sportsmanship, while at the same time, learning new skills and making new friends.
Both teams will now travel to Wagga at the end of this term to participate in the finals where they will play off against many other schools from around the Riverina.
