In the lead up to each SunRice Festival residents put their hands up to be part of the quest – holding a number of fundraising events to benefit not just their chosen charity and committee, but the money is then pooled and handed out to community groups.
Those who were successful in receiving a portion of the funding pie this year included schools, sporting organisations, the Leeton Volunteer Rescue Association, Leeton Preschool, Leeton Eisteddfod Society and Leeton Men’s Shed.
Just over $49,000 was presented during an official night of disbursements recently. Leeton SunRice Festival director Julie Axtill was thrilled so many had applied and was happy so many could be obliged with the funds.
“The recipients were all very grateful to receive the donations to fund their various projects,” she said.
“Leeton is a very fortunate community to be able to hold an amazing festival and then still give back to the community that supports it.

The ambassadors worked hard to raise money for their organisations and charities this year and the community that supported them were able to reap the benefits.
“The ambassadors were all very humbled to know the funds they worked hard to raise will go towards funding multiple projects that will in turn benefit the whole Leeton community.”
Planning for the next festival in 2020 is already underway and Mrs Axtill said the committee was already keen to provide another top event for all.
