Public schools play a vital role in preparing students to succeed and thrive in tomorrow’s world.
Our young people need to develop resilience to overcome the challenges of tomorrow, the determination to reach as high as they can and the adaptability to master new skills that will help them now and well into the future. Public Education plays a starring role in helping them to navigate today and tomorrow and the day after that.
Education Week was also about recognising our student leaders who have been the face of Leeton High School for close to twelve months. As is required by the world of tomorrow, our School Captains and Vice Captains have shown confidence and belief in themselves and have admirably shouldered the responsibility that these positions hold thus far.
As an acknowledgement of their contribution to Leeton High School and as student leaders in the Public Education system our Captains Georgia Saddler and Tyler Dunn and Vice-Captains Kody Collins and Jorgy Eglinton were presented with awards from the Department of Education to mark this annual event.
Farewell to our Tonko visitors from Japan
SINCE our last newsletter we have bid farewell to the 14 students and two teachers from the Tondabayashi Senior High School who spent a week with us which was a fabulous experience.
We were able to learn many wonderful things about the culture of Japan and establish some great new friendships.
The Tonko group were exceptionally well cared for by our students and host families who we thank very much and Miss Ling for her fantastic organisation.
Leeton Eisteddfod success
OUR eisteddfod groups have again made a huge impact on the performance scene at the Roxy Theatre over the last week with our musicians achieving two firsts and three highly commended.
Well done to our choir and Ukulele group. More exciting news - our choir has been awarded the Marjorie McCormack Scholarship at the Leeton Eisteddfod recognising our students as the best choir group across the Riverina.
Magnificent effort from Mrs van den Heuval and our choir. KROP performers also have drawn acclaim for their efforts at Griffith Regional Theatre and we thank teachers, students and parents for their support and efforts over a couple of very long days.
Leeton High School will host Shine! next month with matinee and evening performances over the course of the 5th and 6th September celebrating the talents and achievements of the Leeton Community of Public Schools. More details to follow.
Strong display of talent
FIFTY-THREE students travelled to Albury for the Riverina Athletics Carnival. It was very pleasing to hear of the many comments our students received for their outstanding display of not only sportsmanship but school uniform on the day.
Well done to all competitors who represented Leeton High School with pride while in Albury.
Congratulations to the seven students who will now represent the Riverina at the State Athletics Carnival.
We wish Flynn Anthony, Shaylan Protheroe, Ryan Butler, Jade Cooper, Nathan Baulch, Kai Schmetzer and Josh Baulch all the best at the next level.
Arguing for fun
CONGRATULATIONS to the Year 7 team for their first debate this year in the Premier’s Challenge competition. Madeline Irvin, Adelaide Meline, Tatum Marks and Shay Bandy competed against Ardlethan Central School last Tuesday.
Their topic was that ‘We should ban Naplan testing’. The girls had to debate the negative case and demonstrated strong public speaking skills, and the ability to develop solid arguments. They were a pleasure to work with.
