THE Roxy Theatre is shaping up in more ways than one.
The iconic Leeton building has recently received a facelift outside, with new paint work giving it a fresh look.
That work was able to be completed through funding from Liquor and Gaming NSW and will also include some further work inside the theatre such as sound augmentation, lighting and curtaining.
Leeton Shire Council has also spent months working on a grant proposal to the tune of millions of dollars that would see the inside of the theatre upgraded.
Some of the work council would like to complete should the money come through is to create disabled access to movies, to the stage, a new rehearsal space and more.
The grant proposal had more than 30 letters of support from key community members, as well from neighbouring councils.
“It’s about making the Roxy more accessible and more functional,” council’s marketing and cultural services co-ordinator Suesann Vos said.
“This is a huge proposal we’ve put forward. We’ve been working on it for months. All up it’s worth $4.45 million project.”
Council has also been listening to feedback to the community when it comes to movies at the theatre.
New times are being trialled and the school holiday movie list has grown.
A movie is screening each day during the current break from school and, in some cases, there are two films taking to the screen in a day.
A new release has also hit the big screen at the theatre, with the Paw Patrol movie Mighty Pups to feature every day from now until October 13.
There are various session times and ticket prices have been brought down as the movie is slightly shorter than usual.
In terms of films for the adults, new times are also being trialled, but now the support of the community is needed.
“We’ve listened to what people wanted and now we need to see the feet walking through the door to support the theatre,” Mrs Vos said.
