It is alleged the boy was bitten by a male, blue American staffordshire terrier after getting within its reach while it was tied up at home in Pendula Street.
The dog was tied up, but when the boy was near it, he was bitten on the side of his neck, shoulder and chest, but was able to run away and sound the alarm.
Police, paramedics and Leeton Shire Council rangers attended, with the boy taken to Leeton District Hospital for further treatment.
Police said the animal had been euthanised by rangers as a result of the incident.
