For some time now the Creative Community Concepts program has been working with Wattle Hill residents, as well as Country Rugby League to empower residents in Wattle Hill to take real ownership of their pocket of town.
Several events focusing on physical activity, inclusiveness and bringing the community together in a fun way have been held in Gossamer Park over the last year or so.
Last week a huge family fun day went ahead despite sweltering temperatures.
Despite the hot weather close to 110 people still turned out for a day highlighted by a colour run, fast four tag, delicious food and a visit from Leeton Fire and Rescue NSW.
New goal posts were also officially set up and handed over to the community for them to use at the park.
Creative Community Concepts project co-ordinator for the Riverina, Mel Waterson, said the event last Thursday was one of the most successful yet.
“We were amazed at how many people came considering how hot it was,” she said.

“I think the best part is seeing all of the families come along.
“People aren’t just dropping their kids off and leaving.
“They are all taking part together.
“It’s all about empowering the community.”
As part of the program, Wattle Hill residents have learned various sports games and how to run and organise them so they can put on a game at any time they wish.
“Wattle Hill has been a real success story for us … residents have really taken hold of what it’s all about,” Miss Waterson said.
