With Group 20 changing the structure of the competition, the Leeton club has made some tweaks of its own.
With the wider competition moving to dual age-groups, this means some younger players may need to play above their age.
To counteract this and to ensure all players are getting a game, Leeton will hold inter-club matches at its Thursday night training sessions for the under 6s, 7s and 8s.
Leeton Junior Rugby League president Matt Evans hoped this idea would cater for all players and their parents.
“It makes sure everyone is getting a go and, perhaps if they don’t want to be playing on the weekend, they can do this instead,” he said.
“It will also allow parents who work on weekends to get their after work on a Thursday and watch their child play.
“We’re going to give it a go and hopefully it works.”
The club will start training at the end of February, with the Group 20 junior competition to officially get underway on March 30.
In good news for the club, it has recently purchased new goal posts for this year.
The equipment was able to be purchased thanks to money raised by the committee through its raffles, canteen and other fundraisers.
“They do look really good,” Evans said.
“These new ones will be easier to put up and pull down as well.
“It’s something we had been wanting to do for a while.”
As with any sporting organisations, volunteers are needed to help keep the club moving into the future.
Evans welcomed any help from parents and supporters.
“You don’t have to take on an executive position” he said.
“It’s like the old saying ‘many hands make light work’.”
Registrations for this year’s competition are now open and can be completed online here.
Registration days will also be held on February 2 and 9 at Jarrah Mall from 9am to noon.
