Samantha Hollier and Geoff Coombes founded the Tour de Cure ride, held every year to raise funds to fight cancer.
In 2007, Mr Coombes, Ms Hollie and another mate, Gary Bertwistle, met for a quiet coffee, determined to make a difference. They decided to see what disease affected the most Australians and with one in two men and women affected by cancer by the age of 85, directed their focus to helping to find a cure.
Since the first Tour de Cure, the annual event has raised millions of dollars towards that goal.
Mr Coombes is a board member of the Tour de Cure and a director of development, as well as a family man who still cycles regularly. He is the driving force behind the Tour de Cure’s ‘Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy’ program, which raises awareness about cancer prevention to school kids across Australia.
Ms Hollier combines being a mother with being a board member and uses her professional background in marketing to drive the Tour de Cure forward. She uses every opportunity to discuss the tour and bring awareness to the ride and its mission.
