The state government announced it would be giving Leeton Shire Council the funds to help complete the project, with $1 million also being kicked in by council.
At this stage, the project does not include plans for a heated pool, but rather an upgrade of the original pool from eight lanes to 10, better disabled access, a new water slide will be installed, as well as a splash park of sorts.
Last week’s funding announcement was met with excitement by the community, but community members have also said they would like to see a heated pool be part of the plans.
Last year the Inner Wheel Club of Leeton started a petition for a heated pool in Leeton.
President Margaret Henman would like to see a 25-metre pool included in the upgrade plans.
“I am sure they (council) will consider the wishes of the whole communities in their planned upgrade,” she said.
“Currently we haven’t heard a lot from the council, they have invited me and others interested in Leeton (having) a heated pool to speak or hand in a submission (at a meeting) on February 13 at 6.30pm.
“I know a heated pool would be beneficial to sporting group, school groups, doctors, physios, swimming clubs and swimming teaches.
“Not only to the people of Leeton, but also to the towns in the surrounding areas.
“As it happens when people from Leeton travels to Griffith to use their heated pool, they shop, go to the movies, have coffee – money that would be spent in Leeton if we had our own heated pool.”

Mayor Paul Maytom said he was open to feedback from the community about the project.
“As I understand a heated pool was not in the original scope, but many residents are asking for council to consider a heated pool,” he said.
“I have been in touch with Margaret and have arranged for her to present to our February meeting.
“My personal view is we should plan a heated/hydrotherapy pool if there is enough interest from our ratepayers.”
Mrs Henman has called on the community to make formal submissions regarding the matter, which she can present to the meeting.
She said those who are unable to make the meeting should contact her beforehand to put their points forward and she will ensure they are presented.
