YEARS ago, the Leeton Multipurpose Community Centre was just a dream.
Thanks to government funding, the former CWA rooms in Wade Avenue were given a huge makeover and the building is now home to many organisations and community groups.
Operating within the centre is the Western Riverina Community College, Pinnacle Community Services, Western Riverina Arts, Marathon Health and more. It also services groups such as the Leeton Art Society, Leeton Senior Citizens Committee, Action Kids Therapy, Mission Australia and Griffith Post School Options.
Leeton Shire Council manager of community services Wendell Peacock said the centre was celebrating its fourth anniversary in 2019.
“The centre provides the community with a place to make new connections or reconnect with other (residents), as well as learn new skills and develop their interests further,” she said.
“On one side of the building we have our office tenants, which is made up of valuable services as Western Riverina Community College and then on the other side of the building we have spaces which are able to be hired out by community and private groups.”
