THe Carpheads won the toss and were able to make the most of the early conditions with Jonathan Doyle and Mick Foster at the crease.
The pair was able to put on 44 runs in the first nine overs before Foster (19) was dismissed by Ben Elwin while James Sullivan (6) followed four overs later with Rhys Wilesmith taking a catch off the bowling of Bryce Rogers (1/29) to see Narrandera fall to 2/69 after 15 overs.
The middle order of the Narrandera side alongside Doyle helped to steer their team out of a potentially dangerous situation.
Lachie Jess and Doyle were able to get their side past the 100-mark with a 48-run partnership before Sam Alampi (1/23) picked up the wicket of Doyle (63) while Jess (23) fell to the bowling of Daniel Muir eight runs later to see a pattern of wickets at regular intervals start to form.
Narrandera captain Brent Lawrence was the backbone for the Carpheads heading into the second half of their innings but finding a partner proved to be a difficult task.
Elwin completed his good afternoon with the ball as he picked up the wickets of Haydn Emerson (5) and Mark Tillyard (1) before Brodie Perram offered some support for Narrandera.
Blake McDonald (1/6) made the vital breakthrough to pick up Lawrence (26) while Muir picked up his third wicket for the day as he dismissed Jack Williamson (5) and Darren Mohr (7).
Wilesmith (1/23) was able to take the final wicket when he had Perram (11) caught by Scott McDonald to see Narrandera bowled out for 180 in 58.4 overs.
The Ferrets were able to make a strong start with Muir and Mathew Axtill facing the music first as they looked to reach stumps on day one with a little damage as possible.
Doyle (2/35) had other ideas as after the Ferrets got to 38 he was able to pick up the wickets of Muir (37) and Elwin (5).
The two wickets late on the day means Axtill (2*) and Maclean Crompton (0*) will resume on 2/45 next weekend with the Ferrets needing another 135 runs to pick up first innings points.
