Graham Kelly (Red) passed away in June 2017.
The business was a family affair originally started by Red's father, Tom Kelly, back in the days when they had their own killing yards located on the Common, through which they processed their own stock.
Red went on to take over the business and it became legendary for not only the meat, but for many other reasons, such as his late night hours, his wave to everyone who drove past, his newspaper collection, and the radio going in the background with the races or football on.
Several generations of locals will have their own memories of the old-fashioned butchershop, with the sawdust on the floors, where you could watch bodies of beef broken down and prepared on the floured wooden butchers block, while you sat on the little seat under the window, looking at the unique signs, meat posters and calendar that he had printed each year.
