The Hawks jumped into first place after defeating the Griffith Black and Whites 16-10 on Sunday at Yanco Sportsground.
Never before have Yanco-Wamoon sat aloft in first position on the league tag ladder and it's a position they will be wanting to keep heading into the pointy end of the season.
Coach Monique Higgins was thrilled to knock the Panthers from first on the ladder.
"That's what you play footy for, to be on top ... great effort by the girls," she said.
"Very happy with the win.
"Defence was really good. We worked on that at training and we really spoke about it.
"We spoke about needing to talk to each other in the line."
Higgins said the win was the biggest one so far for the Hawks this season.
"The derby (between Yanco-Wamoon and Leeton) is always a big one, but to knock off the ones that are on top, that's what you want."
This weekend the Hawks will head to Yenda to take on the fourth-placed Blueheelers in what will no doubt be another tough match.

Higgins will want to maintain the Hawks' winning run as every game counts in the race to not just the finals, but the minor premiership.
Meanwhile, the Leeton Greens will return to the field on Saturday to take on the Waratah Tigers following a week off thanks to the club bye.
Leeton headed out to Yanco Sportsground on Sunday to watch the Hawks and Black and Whites in action.
Coach Paul McGregor said the idea was to watch the top sides from a different perspective, rather than what they gain from when they play each other on the field.
"It was a good game," he said.
"I think it was good for the girls to watch and just take it in. We've got the Hawks coming up in a few weeks, so we're building towards that.
"At the moment, I've just said to the girls it's still week-by-week, but it was good to watch the game while we had the chance."
The Greens are only three points behind the Hawks in third and will be hoping a win this weekend further cements their position.
McGregor said the Greens won't be taking the eighth-placed Tigers lightly and will be working on their team work throughout the match.
The side was put through their paces on Tuesday night with a fitness session before focusing on ball skills on Friday night.
Leeton will be without the Ravu sisters, Elli Gill and several others due to prior commitments on Saturday, but McGregor said the side had the depth to cover the losses.
"It's hard when you want to be building that momentum up, but it can't be helped," he said.
"Hopefully we can get the win and just go from there next week."
