CRACKER TRAGEDY A MATTER OF TIME
In the space of just two days, several people were attacked and some were even injured with firecrackers in Leeton and there were numerous incidences of fireworks being let off in the town area. A Leeton High School student had his backpack blown apart at 2.50pm on Friday after a lit firecracker was placed in the bag. Patrons leaving the Roxy Theatre on Saturday night were also subjected to an attack by unidentified people hurling fireworks into a crowd. In the most disturbing fireworks incident from the weekend, an elderly Leeton resident was awoken by the sound of crackers exploding near his home. On walking into his backyard to investigate, a rocket-type firework landed two metres in front of the man and exploded, knocking him to the ground, where he briefly lost consciousness.
