Councillor Maytom has for some time been advocating for flashing lights to be installed in the Palm Avenue area where there currently isn't any to alert drivers they have re-entered a school zone.
In the surrounding streets there are flashing lights alerting drivers to the fact they are entering a school zone.
But on several approaches to Palm Avenue, running behind Leeton High School and in the TAFE and Leeton Public School areas, there are currently known.

Cr Maytom said this means drivers may not be aware they have entered a school zone.
The Roads and Martime Services (RMS) has assessed the area during both morning and afternoon school zone times, finding it to be congested with both vehicles and pedestrians.
The idea of extra flashing lights for Palm Avenue has now been escalated by the RMS internally, but council is yet to be given a timeframe on when approvals for the lights may be given.
However, Cr Maytom was pleased there was some movement to improve the current situation.
"This has been a long time coming," he said. "I've said for a long time this is something that is needed.
"Some motorists were getting pulled over by the police not knowing they were in a school zone and were fined.
"Flashing lights grabs the attention of motorists.
"It's also about the safety of the students."
The RMS will now work to ensure any proposed changes meet the recommended policies and guidelines before proceeding further.
Cr Maytom has been an advocate for many years when it comes to road safety, but maintains policing of drivers needs to be done in a sensible manner.
He is strongly opposed to police "revenue raising" when it comes to catching speeding drivers out, but does call on drivers to obey the road rules.
School zones are enforced between the hours of 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm during gazetted school days.
