For most, this means mum and dad might not be able to take time off during each break.
Maybe grandparents live out of town.
So, exactly how do Leeton shire parents keep them children entertained and out of mischief each time an end of term break rolls around?
For many, the simple answer is Leeton Out of School Care, which continues to provide a jam-packed calendar of activities for a variety of age groups in a safe environment.
In the past week, this has included spring craft and cooking, a visit to the library, lunch at a Chinese restaurant, laser tag and a visit to the botanical zoo in Wagga, sports and a trip to Griffith.
"We had a record of booking out with two excursions within two days of advertising our holiday program ... we had 14 new enrolments, which is fantastic to see, lots of familiar and new faces to see each day," program co-ordinator Lauren Nelson said.
"The convenience of our opening and closing times, educational and fun program to keep their children busy during the holidays (is what parents like) and to help them out while working."

The fun continues this week with a big screen movie day complete with pizza, a Bunnings workshop, disco and pyjama party and a day at the movies and 10-in bowling in Griffith.
Ms Nelson has been the assistant co-ordinator with the Out of School Care program for some time and these holidays has stepped up into the tough job to fill a maternity leave position.
"I am enjoying the challenges of being the co-ordinator, it's a very rewarding job and knowing that I get to see all the children each day," she said.
"I am very grateful for being able to help Keira (McCallum) out while she is on maternity leave."
