Leeton Shire Council decided at its November meeting to support the closure of one of its public roads - Kefford Road - after a request from those living on the road.
Council's property co-ordinator and native title manager Donna O'Bryan stated in a report that a formal proposal for the closure of a section of Kefford Road, off Back Yanco Road, and the purchase for market value and costs was received from Mr M Scali by mail in September this year.

"The section of road that is proposed to be closed and sold adjoins properties owned by Mr Scali and is used only by the Scali family for access to their farms," she said.
"Drive through access from the public is limited."
The area of road proposed to be sold is about 7400m2 and is a formed gravel road maintained by council.
Council engineers have confirmed the road does not have any strategic value and the shire has no interest in the continued ownership, maintenance responsibility or legal liability for the road.
Under the Roads Act 1993, council is now advertising the proposal to close the section of the road and notify all adjoining owners and notifiable authorities of the proposal to close the section of the road.
Provided no objections are received for the closure of the section of the road, official authorisation for the sale of the closed road to Mr M Scali for market value will be given.
Any objections will be brought back to council for consideration.
