In 2009, the smoke from the devastating Victorian bushfires covered the shire in early February and many will remember it was much worse to the current conditions being experienced.
The Black Saturday fires were a series of bushfires burning in Victoria on February 7, 2009, with 172 people tragically killed.
It was only days later on February 10 that the smoke from those fires made their way to the skies over Leeton.
There have also been numerous other incidents throughout the years where this has occurred.
The current haze across the shire can be attributed to the many fires across the state that are burning and will likely continue to do so for many weeks, even months.
The smoke this week is coupled with extreme temperatures in Leeton shire and residents have been warned to take precautions.
For some people, smoke causes mild symptoms like sore eyes, nose and throat.
However, people with conditions like asthma, emphysema and angina are at greater risk because the smoke can trigger their symptoms.

MLHD director of public health Tracey Oakman said it was important to take precautions.
Likewise, the MLHD also recommends residents be mindful of the hot conditions.
Avoiding the hottest times of the day, staying hydrated, checking on elderly neighbours and ensuring pets and young children are all well looked after is among the advice.
A statewide total fire ban is also in place until midnight on Saturday.
