Mehdi Sameri, 20, cried as he was sentenced on Thursday after he admitted to dangerous driving causing the death of 49-year-old Colin Waters at Taylors Lakes on the morning of July 24 and failing to stop at the scene.
County Court Judge Paul Lacava said he took into account the apprentice plumber's good prospects of rehabilitation and "proud state of remorse and shame", noting Sameri told police officers he wished had died instead of the father-of-two.
