SUMMER has proven to be a mixed bag in Leeton shire so far in 2022.
While it's only early days, already there's been wild summer storms resulting in plenty of humidity.
Warm nights and hot days are on the agenda again this week with temperatures expecting to hover in the mid-30s for the majority of the week.
IN OTHER NEWS:
More rain is predicted and there's no doubting those 40-degree days are on their way at some point this summer.
With that in mind and, the pandemic continuing to impact people's holidays plans, we've put together a list of places to cool off in and around Leeton shire.
Murrumbidgee River
THERE'S plenty of "beaches" residents can explore while taking a refreshing dip in the water of the Murrumbidgee River.
With many trees around, there's plenty of shade to have a picnic or laze about on a towel with a good book.
Fishing is also an option and the more adventurous can get the boat out and have a go at water skiing.
Those heading out to the river should always be mindful of their surroundings, practice water safety tips and should not leave any rubbish behind.
Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre

THOSE looking for a more central place for a swim this summer should look no further than the Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre (unless they are among the lucky who have one in their own backyard).
Having been refurbished in recent years, the Leeton pool is the must-be place for a refreshing dip this summer.
It's a cheap option and there's plenty of shade and grass to relax, not to mention smaller pools for the little ones that come complete with new features.
The kiosk is also open for snacks and the grassy areas also have plenty of room to kick a ball around or play a bit of backyard cricket.
On a more mild summer day, why not take a walk around the town circle walking trail, finishing with a nice, refreshing swim as a reward for your hard work.
The pool is also available for lease for private functions after normal closing times. Making a booking with Leeton Shire Council on 6953 0927.
For those living in the Whitton area, there's also the pool located in that town, which is another top spot to whittle away a summer's day.

- Whitton pool: 11am to 7pm daily.
Operating hours may differ depending on patronage and weather conditions.

- Non-swimming, spectators, supervisors, carers $2.
- Season tickets: Family $300, adult $150, child $115.
Leeton shire parks

THERE'S many shady parks scattered throughout Leeton shire with plenty of play equipment for the kids and barbecue facilities to cook up a sausage sizzle lunch.
However, the crown among these facilities is McCaughey Park in Yanco, which has all of these things but also its very own splash park.
The splash park has been popular among children and adults looking to cool off and it doesn't cost a cent.
There's a small walking track around the pond at this park, but you are not allowed to swim in this water. However, it is still nice to look at and enjoy that way.
Gogeldrie Riverside Park

GOGELDRIE Weir is an oasis in the desert as they say.
Located on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, Gogeldrie Riverside Park is the ideal location for camping, caravanning or a picnic if you're looking for a relaxing place to stay or even just to visit for the day.
There's plenty of room for a family barbecue or picnic - the electric barbecues are free to use.
Shady trees and lawn areas provide the cool spots you're seeking, and there's also space for a game of footy, cricket or soccer.
Kayaks and bikes can be hired from the office. Of course with the Murrumbidgee River right there, all of the usual water sports, fishing and natural scenery abounds.
Accommodation is also available.
Free day entry is available, but day visitors must register at the office on arrival.
