A TASTE of uni life in Leeton without having to leave the boundary of the shire?
Sounds too good to be true.
However, that's exactly what will be happening next month when Macquarie University comes to town.
In 2018, the university brought its roadshow to Leeton to give students a taste of what life is like at the higher education facility and now it is coming back again.
The roadshow is an initiative of Macquarie's Learning, Education, Aspiration, Participation program, which aim to raise aspirations, create possibilities and actively support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to successfully participate in higher education.
However, it's not just students who are the focus. Parents and teachers will also have time to meet with representatives from the university to ask any and all manner of questions.
The aims to be both educational and engaging during the "taster" sessions for students, with a range of disciplines covered, including economics, cognitive sciences, chiropractic, dance, and ancient history.
Students will handle artefacts from Macquarie University's Museum of Ancient Cultures, be transported to Dunmore Lang College using virtual reality goggles and hear from academics and current Macquarie students.
Pro vice-chancellor of programs and pathways, Professor Sean Brawley, said another key message of the visit was to let students and parents know there were many pathways to university study.
"It is particularly important both parents and students understand the ATAR is not the only pathway into university," he said.
"We know having contact with and visiting a university can influence a young person's decision to pursue further education.
"That's not as simple for students in regional and rural areas, so we are bringing Macquarie University to (Leeton)."
The university will be in the region from February 10 to 14, meeting with students and parents from Leeton, Yanco, Griffith and Ardlethan.
