During these troubled times, this couldn't be more true.
A group of like-minded people involved with Leeton Connect identified the need for a project to support people in need or in self-isolation during the pandemic, particularly those who are experiencing hardships, the elderly, disabled or immunocompromised.
This community-led project is aptly named "Leeton Connects with Kindness" and provides a safe platform where people can ask for support and where help services can be offered.
Leeton Connects with Kindness is not a front-line social service, but a group coordinating and connecting people, organisations, agencies, service providers and volunteers.
In essence, Leeton Connects with Kindness is a central hub, a conduit to connect the whole community.
MORE NEWS
Tony Reneker, a member of the Leeton Connect board, very generously volunteered his time and service to get the project up and running.
Over the last couple of weeks, he has been busy contacting agencies, service providers, and other groups to develop a database of information to help support residents during these troubled times.
Next week, Tony will be joined by Ron Arel, who has accepted the position as the new Leeton Connects with Kindness co-ordinator.
Ron will continue the excellent work by connecting with providers while he supports those seeking assistance.
The information gathered so far has been shared on Facebook.
The Leeton Connects with Kindness page has quickly become an excellent resource of topical threads for those wanting to share or obtain information.
The page is updated daily, and all residents are encouraged to join the page.
Leeton Connect wants to ensure they reach all residents.
Hence, the plan is to post out a pamphlet to everyone in Leeton and surrounding districts, encouraging them to contact the co-ordinators for assistance.
Residents in need are urged to request support - we are stronger together and together everyone wins.
Ensuring privacy and confidentiality is of the utmost importance. With this in mind, the group has developed online forms for those requesting support or wishing to offer support.
The link to the online forms is on the Leeton Connects with Kindness Facebook page.
Alternatively, residents are welcome to call either Ron or Tony, and they will gladly take their details and action their request. It is so heartening to see the community taking care of each other. Together, Leeton Connects with kindness.
