The Crows survived a late scare to walk away with a 7.12 (54) to 4.7 (49) victory on a wet day in Leeton.
It was a slow start for the Crows who had a couple of excellent opportunities to kick the opening goal before Samuel Hopper popped up 11 minutes into the first term.
Cooper Sharman kicked two goals in the second term to see the Crows lead by 22 points heading into the main break.
The Lions hit back quickly at the start of the second half with a goal sixty seconds into the third term but a third goal to Sharman and Jade Hodge popping up for his second saw the Crows leading by 30 points heading into the final term.
The final quarter started much the same as the third with the Lions kicking two quick goals to get the score back to within 17 points with five minutes gone.
Into the final five minutes and the Lions surged with two quick goals however the siren sounded to hand the Crows the narrow victory.
Crows coach Daniel Muir admitted had his side kicked better in the opening term the game could have been out of reach for their opponents.
"I think we ended up with 1.6 after the first term," he said.
"If you kick 6.1 the game could have been over already. It was just really pleasing with how we stuck at it when they were really coming at us.
"I think we controlled the game for the most part. In the last 10 minutes, they came at us hard, and they were always going to.
"But we probably help ourselves in front of goal myself included."
Heading into the game, the Crows were locked in a four-way fight over the top spot with the Lions as well as Wagga Tigers and Mangoplah CUE and Muir knows how crucial these points are.
"Not sure about the other results from today but it sets us up well for the last few games," he said.
The Crows didn't get through the game unscathed with Jonathan Spina going down in the third term with a hamstring injury.
"I think it might be nerves in his back than anything so it is just precautionary as soon as he feels it he comes off," he said.
"Might need to give him a bit of a rest now that we have a bit of a buffer."
Muir also came off in the final term with a cork but was able to retake the field for the dying stages.
The Crows coach praised the work of his ruckman Mason Dryburgh as well as a couple of his onballers.
"He rucked the who came against Olsson (Jacob) and Foley (Daniel), and I thought he did really well," he said.
"Matt Rainbird and Bryce O'Garey, in and under giving us first use, were phenomenal today."
