Ms Hayes, who works as an ICU nurse at Griffith Base Hospital, is preparing to chop off her hair in a quest to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.
She's also planning to have her hair made into a wig and donated to children's charity organisation Variety Australia.
"My hair is right down by back, it's very long and thick," Ms Hayes said.
"This year has been a pretty ordinary year for everyone.
In my job I see a lot of people isolated because of COVID restrictions and that got me thinking about cancer patients and treatments.

"Diagnosis is hard at the best of time, but even more so during these times. It's hard to get patients between faculties and across borders, so I wanted to help.
"I've seen firsthand the great work McGrath breast care nurses do, so I decided to cut off all my hair and raise money for them."
These nurses are registered nurses who are specially trained to manage the care of people with breast cancer throughout the course of their treatment.
They are a principal liaison between the individual and the specialists who co-ordinate their treatment - whether it be early or metastatic breast cancer.
Ms Hayes set herself a fundraising goal of $1000, but she has already eclipsed this amount, with the current kitty sitting close to $1600.
"I really can't believe how generous everyone has been," she said.
"Times are tough for everyone, so it's really special to know people are still willing to give what they can and help out a really good cause."
Ms Hayes is planning to have the big chop on September 8 in Leeton, so there is still plenty of time to donate.
After growing her hair for many years, Ms Hayes isn't worried about having it all lopped off.
"I have actually done it once before to be made into a wig for charity ... coming into summer, it's the perfect time as well," she said.
"I joke about how much I spend on hair products, so with the money I save there, I'll donate that as well."
