Do you control where you call home?
Do you control who comes into your home?
Do you control the people that you allow to support you in your everyday life?
If you answered yes, then imagine being told where and who you will live with just because you are also happen to be living with a disability.
MORE NEWS
Since the rollout of the NDIS there have been some big changes, but this one excites me more than ever allowing everyone the opportunity to live their best life in an inclusive community.
Individual living options (ILO) are focused on working with the participant and their family to consider their needs and preferences, and design a flexible package of supports.
Some of the options under ILO are co-residency where a support resides either full time or part-time in the participant's home.
Host arrangements, where a participant resides full time in the home of a non-related host who can provide support.
Living alone, where support is provided in the home of the participant in a variety of ways.
And my favourite, living together - the participant lives with other people of their choice and receives support to meet their needs and goals.
Individual living options are often a viable alternative to a group home and with NDIS being all about choice and control the participants will now have an option of where and with whom they live with and this provides opportunity for everyone to live an inclusive life.
I am always open to have a chat with anyone in Leeton about how you can access the NDIS but, more importantly getting the best out of your plan.
It can be a confusing time, but as an advocate I love being able to assist.
