This love has now transformed into being awarded a life membership honour with the Leeton Vintage and Veteran Car Club.
Mr Lehman was one of the founding members of the club, which recently celebrated its 15 anniversary, which is where the honour was bestowed.
"I was very surprised," Mr Lehman said.
"It's a very big honour.
"It has always been a really great club to be part of. The people and the events we hold are what I like most. We fundraise for charities."
Mr Lehman is a current member of four different car clubs - the Leeton Vintage and Veteran group, as well as the MIA Cruisers, Standard and Triumph Car Club and the Renault Car Club of Australia.
He has also been a member of the Melbourne R and S Valiant Car Club.
Over the years Mr Lehman has restored dozens of cars.
His collection of vehicles, including those for everyday use, currently stands at 16.
"It's something I have been interested in for a very long time," Mr Lehman said.
"I've given away restoring cars now, but I still enjoy keeping them all maintained."
Last weekend Mr Lehman and his wife Helen also hosted a registration day for the club at their home, as well as a small wrap up gathering for the year.
