The pathway on Racecourse Road has linked up with Acacia Avenue to give residents more options to continue their exercise or give them better access to the Leeton Showground and Leeton Jockey Club when not travelling in a motor vehicle.
The construction work of the pathway had long been in the mind of Leeton Shire Council as it aims to continue extending and maintaining its large shared pathway network.
Work started just a short couple of months ago on this particular shared pathway and, now that it has been completed, residents are already taking the opportunity to use the pathway.
Leeton shire mayor Paul Maytom said the pathway would provide a safe way for people who are walking or on a bike to use that stretch of road.
"It also links up some of our vital facilities to the rest of town ... people can now get out there on foot and feel safe about it," councillor Maytom said.
Roads and Maritime Services and council provide funding annually on a 50/50 basis for shared pathway projects.
All other footpaths are funded solely by council.
This work to construct the shared pathway is part of council's Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP).
