Held at the Leeton High School multipurpose centre, the auditions were attended by people from Wagga, Ganmain, Narrandera, Leeton, Coleambally and Temora.

Director and lead actor Jake Speer was thrilled to be back in his home town meeting the potential stars of the future, saying some real gems had already been uncovered.

"While the turn-out was a little smaller than we anticipated, those that did audition showed great heart," he said.

"In fact, it was a very powerful experience - such a diverse group of people, many of whom had not really acted before, but all with a passion for Shakespeare and for theatre.

Every person we met has their own unique quality, and for some, this will make them a perfect for the cast."

The audition team comprises of Mr Speer, fellow Sydney-based actor Brandon McClelland, Griffith-based theatre maker Bonnie Owen and Leeton writer-in-residence and dramaturge Sarah Tiffen.

They have already learned a few things from the first round of auditions to help build momentum.

This includes many people, in the first instance, may find it challenging to memorise their lines for auditions.

"For the second round of auditions, we do want to emphasise - please don't be shy to turn up just because you may not have nailed the lines," Mr Speer said.

"It is not as important to me as being able to see you in person, how you move around the space, your voice, your energy and your personality.

"We realise we are all at the end of an incredibly challenging and unusual year and the idea of memorizing Shakespeare in between Christmas parties and escaping the heat might be a bit too much to imagine.

"So, we want to encourage you if you want to audition, please sign up, even if you haven't quite managed to commit the script to memory."

Second round auditions will be held January 9 and 10 again at LHS.

"What this show really needs is males over the age of 40 years," Mr Speer said.

"It's a very physical and masculine play, with swords and spears and battles, great costumes, lots of intrigue.

"To the fellas out there, I'd like to say, while you're having a restful holiday break, have a think.

"Wouldn't you like to spend a few weeks doing something most people only dream of - building memories that will last a lifetime?

"It's a great story to tell the grandkids."
