It's the second cancellation of a big event in 2021 following on from the Leeton Bidgee Classic, which had been due to take place next month but won't be going ahead this year.
The Leeton Business Chamber has reinvigorated the awards in recent years and said after much deliberation from its committee and members, the hard call had been made not to ahead in 2021.
Alternatively, the chamber has said it will be using resources to provide the Leeton business community with more upskilling opportunities by bringing guest speakers to the community.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Since the abrupt cancellation of the 2020 The Walters - Leeton Business Awards in March last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, the committee has been speculating if the same fate would fall on the 2021 event, according to president Krystal Roden.
"Asking sponsors for a non-refundable deposit was one of the scenarios we tossed around to see if the running the event would be feasible, however this did not seem fair to our sponsors nor the time and effort that finalists put in should the event get cancelled at the last minute," she said.
This was discussed at the general meeting on February 5 among the committee and attending members at length. It was evident there was a lot of work involved in the lead up to the event, which costs time and money to facilitate.
Other plans are already in the works to keep the business community active.
"We are working on providing an engaging business event with a guest speaker in the next few months," chamber secretary and executive assistant Maryann Iannelli said.
Other events this year include the revival of the popular breakfasts, hosted by local businesses.
These events provide networking opportunities for attendees and promotional benefits for the hosting business.
Information on business breakfasts and how to host one will be shared on chamber website a www.leetonchamber.com.au and on social media.
