In recent times, the Lions Youth Exchange Program had to be suspended due to COVID-19.
Youth Exchange chairman Suzanne Newton and committee are actively working with MD Diabetes chairman, Pat Mills and Type 1 Foundation chairman Ange McCaughley to look at other ways we can fulfil the ideals of the program.
"Youth Exchange is not just for young people visiting far flung overseas destinations, there has always been the opportunity for our youth to travel within Australia under this program too," Ms Newton said.
This year it is hoped a series of camps targeted at young people with special needs will be able to be held.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Camp Koala will be the host for a Type 1 diabetes camp.
Camp Koala is located on the Bellarine Peninsula, a drive about 90 minutes south-west of Melbourne, in the historic town of Queenscliff.
This camp will be for Type 1 diabetics aged 16 to 20 years from April 11 to April 17 at the YMCA camp in Queenscliff.
Costs for the camp is $100 per participant. This is due to generous funding from the Lions Clubs International Foundation and Australian Lions Foundation.
The main goals of this camp is to bring youth from all over Australia to create friendship, the challenges in a working environment and socially. Lions are looking for campers right now.
