To help better protect senior residents in the community, Leeton Shire Council has endorsed its Ageing Well Strategy for 2021 to 2021, which updates the former document from 2013.
The idea of the strategy is to support older residents to lead an active, healthy and independent life in the shire.
"A key element of the review of the strategy was to revise the action plan to ensure the actions council takes to support the community to age well are relevant and achievable," council's general manager Jackie Kruger said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The plan contains actions that need to be taken under several themes, including transport, information, education, housing, safety security and access, health and wellbeing, staff and services, volunteering, and others.
With all of these combined, the idea is to provide senior residents with the services they require all while being shown the respect they deserve.
Mayor Paul Maytom said the strategy also identified where others in the community may have a role to contribute supporting positive ageing, as well as everyday actions everyone can all take to help the community to "age well".
Extensive consultation took place before putting the final strategy together.
This included engaging with residents and services within the shire to identify the things they believed would help them to age well.
"Council has considered all the feedback provided over time and we would like to thank everyone who provided valuable input on this important document," Mrs Kruger said.
The strategy is available for the community to view on council's website at www.leeton.nsw.gov.au.
