If you have lived in Griffith or the MIA for a long time, you may remember dropping your grocery list off at the Taylor Bros grocery store.
You may also remember the honest-faced larrikin behind the counter, hard-working but always up for a chat with whichever customer just walked through the door.
That man was David Alan Taylor, better known as Alan or "AT", who sadly passed away on Saturday March 13 at 85 years of age.
An outgoing gentleman with a happy-go-lucky attitude, Alan was known by many in Griffith and across the Riverina.
His work behind the counter of his father's Taylor Bros grocery store, pouring beers at the Griff Hotel and as a bagman for local bookies introduced him to many across town.
But it was his charm, honesty and passionate love for sport which made him memorable to everyone he met.
He was popular, outgoing and he just loved sport.Eva Taylor on her husband Alan
As well as being a diehard Rabbitohs supporter, Alan was also a successful sportsman himself, with an impressive local career in cricket and rugby league.
He would no doubt want to remind Griffith residents of his shining achievement, when he made the catch to win the premiership for Hanwood Cricket Club in 1974.
It was an iconic moment, immortalized by the game ball which he put straight in his pocket and which remained in his wardrobe for the rest of his life.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"He was just a really good man," Eva said. "He was a lovely husband and he loved his children very much."
"He loved going on the road and travelling, and whenever he did he would make all these new friends. Even when he hadn't seen them in 30 years he would remember each of them."
The Taylor Bros grocer was an iconic building in Griffith's landscape for many years, and in 1984 a replica of the building was created at Pioneer Park Museum.
Every now and again, Alan would visit the replica of his old workplace and reprise his old job working behind the counter, selling sweets and other foodstuffs to the people of Griffith.
