LEETON-WHITTON'S A grade netball side has sent a strong signal to the competition in 2021.
The Crows won a thrilling match against Riverina League heavyweights the Wagga Tigers 31-30 on Saturday, showing they mean business this year.
Leeton-Whitton spent the pre-season working not just on their fitness and ball skills, but gelling together as a team.
Early signs show this hard work is paying off.
The one-point thriller meant the Crows had to work for every goal, but such a contest will hold them in good favour heading into what will be a long season after last year's shortened AFL Riverina Championships.
The Tigers certainly didn't make it easy for Leeton-Whitton, who were the host team last weekend.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"I think we were down at every break ... at one point we were down by about eight goals," senior netball coach Jenna McCallum said.
"The thing I am most proud of from the weekend is the girls didn't drop their heads.
"Being eight goals down some teams would drop their heads, but we didn't.
"We kept pushing and we were able to get the win, it was amazing."
Among the stand out performers on Saturday was Grace Korovata, who was moved from the defence circle in goal shooter during the match, with McCallum labelling her as "the difference in the end". Taya Panuccio also had a top game.
This weekend the Crows will face another test against the Griffith Swans, a club they also enjoy a strong rivalry with.
The Swans drew their opening match last weekend with Collingullie-Glenfield Park.
"It's going to be another tough match," McCallum said.
"The thing I want us to focus on this weekend will be getting off to a better start than we did last week."
