While the main march was required to be smaller than usual due to ongoing rules surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the community turned out in droves to commemorate the fallen, the returned servicemen and women, as well as all current serving personnel.
The march included representatives from schools, the Leeton Salvation Army, Leeton Volunteer Rescue Association, returned veterans, descendants of those who have served and more.
The Leeton Town Band and the Leeton Pipe Band performed throughout the march, which started at the town's court house before moving towards the main street and down Pine Avenue.
Led by RSL sub-branch president Peter Williams, the service included all of the typical Anzac Day fanfare, including the Australian and New Zealand anthems, the salute being read by mayor Paul Maytom, the prayer for the nation from Elizabeth McGregor and the names of Leeton shire's fallen were recited by Leeton High School's 2021 captains.
With crowds happy to be given the opportunity to pay their respects in 2021 after being forced to stay away in 2020, it was evident to see Anzac Day has not lost its meaning among the Leeton community.
Guest speaker for the day was Leeton resident Craig McGregor, who served in the Australian Navy as a medic after joining when he was just 15-and-a-half years old.
Mr McGregor spoke about the significance of the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, its many stories and why residents should take the time to take it in next time they are in the nation's capital.
He reflected on Australia's military effort over the years, including World War I and how almost every citizen at this time was affected by the first Great War.
The service was rounded out with the sounding of The Last Post and the reveille, with Mr Williams telling the crowd he was hopeful in 2022 even more people would be able to take part in the commemorations.
