CARRAMAR resident Ada McGregor has plenty of reasons to smile as she celebrates her 100th birthday on Friday.

Mrs McGregor, nee Barras, was born on April 30, 1921 in Waverly NSW to parents Ellen May Barras and Edward Barras.
She attended school in Arncliffe and recalls the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge when the local schools were invited to walk over the iconic structure.
As a child, Mrs McGregor loved dancing, attending a dance school and wanted to become a Tivoli Chorus Line Girl, but was told she was "too short".
During WWII she worked at AWA, manufacturing radio valves for the war effort.
One event she spoke about in later years (they had to sign a secrecy form) was flying to an airfield in Port Moresby New Guinea to replace faulty radio valves.

The family then moved to Yanderra and she worked as a shop assistant at the Log Cabin in Yanderra.
Mrs McGregor met and married Stanley McGregor, a returned serviceman and fettler.
They married on March 9, 1951 at St Andrews Cathedral Sydney and lived in Yanderra.
Mrs McGregor was very active in the local community, volunteering for many organisations, including the Yanderra Progress Association, Yanderra Primary School P&C and on the Picton Bowling Club committee.
She was an active member of the Bargo RSL Women's Auxillary and, with her friends, spent many years supporting Bargo RSL.
She received a certificate of appreciation from the RSL.
Mrs McGregor is a talented at cooking, sewing, knitting, crochet and embroidery. She made the most beautiful paper flowers for the floats in the local parades.
The McGregors had two children - Robert and Craig McGregor - and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr McGregor sadly died in 1996 following a service-related illness and was cared for in a nursing home until his passing.
Mrs McGregor moved to Leeton in 1989 and helped run the office for her son Robert when he purchased a taxi truck business.
Craig and family followed to Leeton in 1990 after completing 20 years in the Navy.
She spent the time she wasn't busy in the office with her grandchildren (making cakes etc), who loved spending this time with her.
Mrs McGregor lived at home until recently with the other Ada (Liz's mum) and her son Robert.
She now resides in Carramar and will be celebrating her 100th birthday in style with family.
