New Florist Opens Doors in Leeton

Kerry Cornes is a florist with over 20 years of experience working all over Australia from Melbourne to Newcastle to Hamilton Island and finally Leeton where she is still spreading her roots after moving to the area 18 months ago.

Bringing a more commercial style of corporate floristry to Leeton, the business has had a great response so far from the community.

"The response has just been massive. I mean, the shop was completely gutted and renovated when we bought it so it's just such a beautiful and welcoming space now for everyone to visit," Mrs Cornes said.

"I have also been fortunate to access flowers from Melbourne, which are delivered fresh regularly."

A collaboration with an native grower, Must Love Flowers in Finley, has also increased Arbour and Ivy Flowers range of native flowers species, something that Mrs Cornes would like to build upon.

"I'm all for establishing relationships with local growers, I think it's important we support each other" she said.

According to Mrs Cornes, the artistic side of floristry is what drew her interest to the profession.

"I love creating, using my eyes to curate a beautiful balance of color, tone and texture," she said.

"And obviously it's nice to bring a little bit of happiness and joy to my customers, no matter the occasion."

Her current favorite flower is the tuberose, a flower not exactly known for its beauty but rather its sweet smell.

Mrs Cornes also has big plans for the future; "I do want to do floral workshops for wreaths, flower crows, styling for glam picnics and even hens events."

Currently, the store is a one woman ship however Mrs Cornes is looking for a creative young trainee passionate about flowers to start working with her in the coming weeks.
