The Leeton side was able to make a strong start with a goal to Henri Gardner breaking the deadlock in the first half.
The Sharks hit back with United temporarily down to 10-men due to an injury to see the sides level at 1-all at the halftime break.
The home side was able to take the lead from the penalty spot at the start of the second half, but Gardner stuck again with 15 minutes left to bring the sides back level
Despite a late surge from the United side, the score remained at 2-2 when the final whistle blew.
Leeton coach Frank Alampi was pleased with his side's performance against a close rival on the ladder.
"We had good movement, and they were just able to close down our shots," he said.
"I challenged the boys before the game to go out there and play some good football, and they did.
"The first half was really good, we started pretty slow in the second half, and when they scored, they dropped their heads a little bit and took about 20 minutes to get going again.
"We were able to get going and probably should have jagged three or four but only got the one."
The point picked up helps the United side to keep pace with the top four but also prevents Lake Albert from pulling away from them.
As it stands, United are now on eight points, leaving them two points behind Lake Albert in fourth while Young and Henwood Park move four points ahead in third and second place, respectively.

The return of Jarrod Sillis in goal was a welcome addition to the side, with Alampi also pointing to the performances of Stuey Smeeth and Pablo Quarin in the midfield as well as Gardner and Nick Trifogli as the standouts.
The United coach was pleased to report they were able to get through the clash with no injuries.
"Henri hurt his shoulder, and Freddy (Gardner) got smashed a couple of times, and so did Raso (Adam), but no one limped off," he said.
United will head back to Wagga next weekend to take on South Wagga.
