Despite the cool weather and drops of rain, the championships kicked off on Thursday with four teams competing.
Joan Lloyd, Jan Fitzpatrick, Judy Heness and Elaine Sullivan narrowly defeated Mary Payten, Helen Symes, Marika Pete and Hilary Chambers 25-21.
Payten's team took the lead early, but Lloyd's team, after being 11 shots down, gradually fought back to even the score on the 14th end.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Payten's team regained the lead until the 18th end, but lost the next three ends to lose the match by four.
In the other game of fours, Lorraine Mullins, Patti Wakeman, Janet Bell and Dot Semmler defeated Denise Naylor, Faye Harris, Joan Bourke and Lorraine Messner 26-11.
Naylor's side held the lead early in the match, but Mullins' team were just too strong.
Mullins' side was also the drawn winners on the day. A resting toucher was achieved by Denise Naylor.
A reminder to get triples teams in. The monthly meeting will be held after play this Thursday.
