In what was a slow first half, which coach Frank Alampi was none to impressed with, the side was able to regroup and claim the vital three points on offer.
Played at MIA Sportsground, United were missing some of their usual troops and struggled to find the required momentum during the first half of the match.
The team was also trying out several new structures and struggled to find their feet.
However, after Alampi delivered his half-time address, the team came out with their heads high and ready to get the job done.
"We were able to score just before half-time, which I think helped the boys to feel a bit better heading into the break," Alampi said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"I was a bit unhappy with them at half-time, so it was good they were able to come out and play better in the second.
"It wasn't our best performance in that first half, but at the end of the day we were happy to get the points."
With plenty of missed opportunities in the first half, United were able to find the back of the net with more precision in the second.
Fred Gardner kicked four of the five goals, with the other major going to Carlo Trifogli.
Cootamundra are one of the sides sitting at the lower end of the Football Wagga Pascoe Cup ladder, but Alampi said he always knew they would come to Leeton ready for a battle.
"Full credit to Coota, they were set up really well and their coach has done a good job with them," Alampi said.
"They've really improved.
"We knew it wouldn't be easy and they made it difficult for us."
Leeton United's attention now turns to their huge clash with Henwood Park this weekend in Wagga.
A win could see Leeton United make significant inroads in cementing a position in at least second place, but a loss would mean they have a battle on their hands.
"There's no easy games this year, so we need to put in the effort," Alampi said.
