Stuart Stout has been coaching the women's side for some time and, while he always heads into matches hoping to win, he knows this can't happen without solid preparation.
Stout said 2021 was indeed a rebuilding year for the Dianas, with many new and younger players joining the side.
However, with poor numbers at training he said the team continues to struggle with cohesion, something he noticed was lacking in their 15-12 victory over the Tumut Bulls on Saturday.
While happy to get the points, Stout said he would have preferred the team win in a better fashion.
"We're happy with the win, but we didn't play how we wanted to," Stout said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We strayed from the game plan. We didn't follow it at all really.
"That comes down to our training. We haven't been getting great numbers, so if we aren't training together as a group, we aren't learning the game plan together.
"That makes finding that cohesion and consistency difficult.
"I was happy we won, but I was actually more pleased with how we played the week before when we lost."
Stout said he understood players had commitments, but said training needed to be a focus for the side if they were to all be on the same page and show improvement not just this season, but in the years ahead.
The Dianas head to Wagga this weekend where they will face the CSU Reddies on their home turf.
A win is not out of the question against the sixth-placed side, but Stout acknowledged it would be tough going.
"It will be another hard road trip ... we will probably have minimal numbers, but we will do what we can," he said.
"Hopefully we come through and are competitive on the field."
Meanwhile, the Leeton Phantoms third grade side will also return to the field on Saturday against the Reddies.
With CSU currently third and Leeton fourth, Saturday's match should make for an interesting encounter at Beres Ellwood Oval.
