Rugs crafted from the unused 2020 Sydney Royal Easter ribbons and sold at the 2021 event have raised $42,000 for regional hospitals, including here in Leeton.
The Leeton Hospital Auxiliary has received $6000 to purchase much-needed maternity or paediatric equipment.
While it is still being decided what equipment will be snapped up for the hospital, one idea has been to perhaps buy smaller oxygen saturation monitors for the emergency department for use when taking care of children.
Leeton District Hospital midwife Leeanne Driscoll was pleased the auxiliary had been selected to receive the much-needed money.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The good thing about it is it stays here in Leeton and will be used to purchase equipment here," she said.
"We do already have the money, we are just putting together a plan on what equipment it will be used for.
"It was actually our clinical midwifery educator who came across this initiative and decided to apply for the funding.
"These sorts of donations are always needed, so it's great."
More than 400 people took advantage of the opportunity to wrap themselves in history with the 2020 ribbon rugs quickly selling out in a never-to-be-repeated Royal Agricultural Society Foundation fundraiser.
Prior to being sold as blankets, the ribbons has been sitting unused following the cancellation of the 2020 event.
