Now known as the Leeton Regional Aquatic Centre, a number of issues are plaguing the pool, with Leeton Shire Council unable to guarantee when it will be opened for the summer months in 2021.
Works are underway at the facility to correct several defects following on from the upgraded pool's opening during the most-recent summer season.
The defects being addressed include a leak in the 50-metre pool, the volume of pool wash onto the decks and the temporary patching of pool toys prior to their full replacement next year with stainless steel as required under tender.
The new slide, which was part of the upgrade, but yet to be constructed won't be ready to use this season.
"With the bulk of the infrastructure and pipework buried under the concrete concourse, ascertaining the exact cause of the leak has not been a simple investigation," council's general manager Jackie Kruger said.
"When we pull up sections of concrete to do the repairs, we only want to do that once.
"Council is talking almost daily with our pool consultants and the builder to work out the best path forward."
Council said it had plans in place for the facility's two pools to open, but a definite timeline has not been given as yet.
Mrs Kruger said the slide was being held up due to certification and installation challenges.
"Amusement devices like a three-storey water slide are not straight forward when it comes to engineering, with only a limited number of professionals able to approve and oversee their installation," she said.
Leeton Shire Council received grant funding from the state government in the millions for the project.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Leeton shire mayor Paul Maytom said while councillors were somewhat frustrated about the delays, they supported the general manager's decision to take a "belts and braces" approach to finalising this major project.
"While we won't have a slide this summer, the new aquatic centre is a big investment for the shire and we want a quality final product," Cr Maytom said.
"Having both pools open early in the season is absolutely our number one priority."
Council said it would keep the community updated on when the pool will open for the season.
In past seasons, the pool would usually open sometime in October, but it is believed that date is no longer viable for the 2021 year.
