Word of a potential protest outside Leeton Shire Council on Tuesday started swirling late last week and over the weekend.
It is believed the protest is being planned in regards to what some are calling "mandatory vaccinations".
Vaccinations against the coronavirus are not mandatory, but some workplaces, events and freedoms post-lockdown will require people to be double-vaccinated or they won't be able to participate in these activities.
With Leeton shire and, the whole of NSW, still under stay-at-home orders any gathering such as a protest is illegal and does contravene the current public health orders.
Acting officer in charge at Leeton, Inspector Tim Clark, said any kind of protest or gathering at the moment would be in breach of the rules and restrictions in place.
"If we do end up with a gathering or protest then we would have to and, would be, enforcing those stay-at-home orders," Acting Inspector Clark said.
"If anyone was to gather there without a legitimate reason or purpose for being away from their home then they will be dealt with under the legislation."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Acting Inspector Clark said there would be no warnings given out to anyone that may attend this potential protest, rather they would be given infringement notices on the spot.
Leeton Shire Council general manager Jackie Kruger on Monday said she was unaware of any protest taking place.
"However, we strongly encourage the community to continue following all of the health orders and lockdown measures that are currently in place," she said.
Leeton shire residents like those across the state are currently only able to leave their homes for a certain number of reasons.
This includes for work, obtain food or other goods and services locally, leaving home for education if it is not possible to do so from home, attending an interview or assessment for work, exercise and outdoor recreation within your local government area and going out for medical or caring reasons, including obtaining a COVID-19 vaccination.
