A NEW electronic billboard in Leeton shire is the first of its kind for the town and will aim to promote important messages.
Located on Irrigation Way on the approach to town from the west, the billboard was purchased after Leeton Shire Council received funding from federal government's drought communities extension program. Its goal will be to help provide important information to residents and visitors.
At the moment, one of those messages being displayed is encouraging residents to get vaccinated.
The idea to install a billboard for Leeton shire was first raised by councillor Peter Davidson.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Electronic billboards placed in high traffic areas are a great way to promote upcoming events and relay important information and other relevant news to the community and visitors," he said.
"It's expected that this advertising platform will also promote local tourism opportunities - drawing more visitors to events and places of interest in the shire.
"This benefits the whole economy."
The project was led by council's manager information technology Gerard Simms.
"Council staff worked together with local contractors on the installation of the billboard and we're delighted that it's up and running," he said.
"The billboard can display text and images to communicate information using sophisticated LED technology.
"The display can be changed at anytime and can be done by council staff in the office."

Council's communications co-ordinator, Monica Armanini, welcomed the platform saying this combines the benefits of traditional signage with the flexibility of digital advertising.
"The billboard will assist council in its communication efforts and will be a key platform for advertising major events," Mrs Armanini said.
